Sharks seek first victory over Inter Allies today

Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom’s Elmina Sharks return to their favorite ground, the Nduom Stadium to welcome Inter Allies in the Ghana premier league matchday 6. Sharks have sojourned to Kumasi and Obuasi in the past three weeks where they have recorded a win and a draw against WAFA and Wa All Stars.

Will Samuel Arthur step up today too?

The home team have not won against Allies in two previous attempts, accumulating a point after drawing the blank at home in the first-ever meeting between the two teams last season. Coach Yaw Acheampong seem to have steadied his side as they have recovered from a painful first week last-gasp defeat away to dreams with a win over WAFA and two draws against reigning champions Aduana Stars and 2015/2016 winners, Wa All Stars. Of particular importance in all these was the famous victory he chalked against the academy boys WAFA who had beaten Sharks in all two previous meetings.

Inter Allies also returned to winning ways courtesy Nigerien import, Voctorien Adebayo whose strike helped them chalk a 1-0 victory over the Sogakope lads after suffering a debilitating 6-0 defeat in Dormaa Ahenkro. Coach Kenichi would relish a victory today as he seeks to add Sharks to his plate.

This afternoon’s encounter affords Yaw Acheampong and his team a perfect opportunity to offer some level of excitement to the vociferous Elmina faithfuls who have only watched their side once in the five week old season, against Aduana Stars. Another reason Sharks can’t afford to slip up is the fact that they need a massive dose of confidence going into the Hearts of Oak game in Cape Coast on Saturday.

Facts behind today’s meeting.

Sharks and Inter Allies have played two games in the Ghana premier league. The ‘BorweakuMba’ have no win in the two games, drawing 0-0 at home and losing 2-0 in the reverse fixture at the El Wak stadium. Sharks are yet to score a goal at the Nduom sports stadium this season. Although their 2-0 win over WAFA is considered a home match, they staged that victory at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.

Sharks have not lost at home since the 1-0 defeat to Great Olympics in week 28 of last season. They have won once since the defeat to Great Olympics, a 2-0 victory over Wa All Stars in the last match of the 2016/2017 season.  Inter Allies lie 3rd on the log on 8 points while Sharks is 9th on 5 points. A win for Sharks could see them leapfrog the Tema based side on the league log.
