Tanko Mohammed scored in the 27th minute of the first half to hand Elmina Sharks a 1-0 win over Inter Allies in the midweek games of the Ghana premier league.
The Elmina side had not beaten Inter Allies in two previous meetings that recorded a win and a draw for the Tema side. But on a third meeting between the two sides, Sharks emerged victorious with a gritty performance at their favored ground, Nduom Sports Stadium.
From the commencement of the game Sharks had looked dangerous and threatened the Allies goal with clear cut chances but the defensive setup of Inter Allies held strong to cut out any attempt by the Sharks forward line that comprised of Tanko Mohammed and Felix Addo.
Elmina Sharks finally got their chance when Tanko found space in the 18 yard box to fire past Saed Salifu in post for Inter Allies. The home team nearly increased the tally when Felix Addo failed to profit from an incisive cross from Richard Mpong in the 37th minute.
Inter Allies however came strong into the game in the closing stages of the first half when Nigerien import Victorien Adebayor threatened the Sharks goal with a glancing header that flew inches wide off the post of Richard Attah.
Sharks resumed the second half on the front foot just as the first, as they went in search of the second goal that would cushion their lead but a combination of gritty defending and woeful shooting denied them.
Inter Allies would however awoke from their deep slumber in the 78th minute two players combined neatly to set up Adebayor but for a timely interception by Ofoe Ofotsu, the Nigerien would have recorded his 4th goal of the season.
To stop Kenichi Yastsuahashi’s men from causing damage, Yaw Acheampong introduced Ebo Mends and Tetteh Nortey into the game to bolster the midfield taking off goalscorer Tanko Mohammed and Suraj Mohammed off while Isaac Quainoo came in for Felix Addo.
Inter Allies however, continued to probe for the equaliser, but Sharks simply won’t badge as they skillfully played to see out the game to register their second win of the season as well as first goal at the Nduom Sports Stadium this season.
The win moved Sharks up from 9th to 6th on the league log on 8 points while the defeated Inter Allies dropped from the second position to the 5th.
