MTN FA Cup: Emmanuel FC, Sharks upset Premier League opponents into R16

    In Sunday’s remaining batch of the 2016 MTN FA Cup Round of 16 games, two more ‘Cupsets’ were recorded as lower tier sides Emmanuel FC and Elmina Sharks secured victories over Ghana Premier League clubs Inter Allies and Ebusua Dwarfs respectively.

    This brings to four, the number of top tier casualties from the round of 32 of the prestigious competition. Hearts of Oak on Saturday were knocked out by Samartex likewise AshantiGold who also are out courtesy a defeat to Asokwa Deportivo. Both sides lost on penalties.

    For Inter Allies, a late comeback attempt only saw the Tema-based club score a consolation goal 7 minutes from time as they lost 1-2 to Emmanuel FC at the Kweiman Park

    Elmina Sharks won 6-5 on penalties after drawing blanks with Ebusua Dwarfs in regulation at the Nduom Park.

    Real Tamale United scored thrice in a 5-goal thriller with Steadfast FC to book their place in the last 16 while Okwahu United won 2-1 over Dunkwa United in the other all-Divison One encounter.

    Sekondi Hasaacas secured a 7-6 penalty shootout triumph over Division One side Okyeman Planners at the Essipong Stadium.

    Bechem United put five past lower tier side Liberty Babies while at Wa, Premier League leaders Wa All Stars had to wait  after regulation time to dispatch a stubborn Techiman City side. All Stars emerged 5-4 winners on penalties.
